Here we go again

the phone is the key..

I have recently stumbled across an informal and discreet method of detecting a person's level of seniority here at my job. When I first started working here I was provided with an old, dingy, dirty touch tone phone, a simple plain black one where the handset sits across the top.

Thinking this was standard issue I had not problems with it... until I noticed the phones of my co-workers; Some had ones that had 10 contact buttons on them, and the handset sat ALONGSIDE the numbers instead of one top. Others had SPEAKERPHONES!

I knew something was afoot, and began my investigation. I walked around the cubicles and noted the style of phone everyone had, taking notes as to how old they looked. I then charted the type of phones vs. suspected age, and just as I had predicted, the better phones correlate DIRECTLY with time served.

Not I'm not saying this practice is wrong, but I certainly felt I deserved a phone with a bit more functionality than my current phone (not that I would use it more, just to have).

And so early one morning, before the coffee had been made, I walked around and searched the unoccupied cubicles for spare phones (not cubicles where people work, actually unused ones). VICTORY IS MINE!! I am now the proud new owner of a tier 2 phone (see chart below).

And life goes on..

"I like to stick it to the man"

"But you are the man.."

"Yes?.."

"So, you're sticking it to yourself."

"Maybe"

hahahaha, I think I might leave early today too... lets hope that happens..
